Course on Axiology - Robert Hartman Test

Application of the Hartman Value Test,

a complete topography of personality

“More than twenty years ago I began to research expanded states of consciousness in various cultures, and to seek applications in psychotherapy and in the field of human development. I did not know of any quantitative measurement tools that could corroborate my diagnostic vision, encourage patient progression, or promote profound changes that follow transformative experiences.

I learned about the Hartman Test from the Mexican psychiatrist, Salvador Roquet who did the test on me, leaving me stunned by what he discovered. I immediately knew and appreciated the depths of the test, and the numerous ways in which it could be used. Since then, I have used the test for various purposes. With this tool, psychiatrists, psychotherapists, and personal coaches have access to a quantitative test for assessing neurosis and internal development.”

A topography

of personality

The Hartman test is a deep and accurate method for the diagnosis and knowledge of patients and students, for use in psychotherapy, human development, selection of personnel, pedagogy and anthropology.

WHAT DOES THE TEST ANALYSE?

The test provides a universal framework for understanding the phenomenon of human perception. It shows why an individual perceives a situation the way he does, how he does it, and the possibilities for understanding and developing natural talents while at the same time explaining what causes behavior.

In sum, the test analyses the behavior and personality of the test subject, the potential that he has developed (and those with are latent), and the kinds of relationships he generates with the opposite sex, his own sex and himself.

The test also analyses the subject’s emotional blocks and fluidity, the degree and quality of his intelligence, and the enthusiasm and commitment he has with respect to the outside world.

The test also detects psychological and existential blocks, as well as the subject’s relationship with parental figures and authority. Furthermore, it provides a look into the level of creativity that the subject has. Through the Hartman Test, we can look at a person’s relationship with the world on many levels (eg., affect, professional and systemic), and also analyse his relationship with his own and others’ sexuality.

The test is a therapeutic compass that identifies with the most important aspects of a person’s need to detect and resolve significant blocks (be it with respect to the person’s inner world, outer world, bioenergetic field or sexuality). It is a diagnostic tool that allows for the recognition of strengths and weaknesses in each and every individual, as well helps us best work out how to empathise with them.

PROFESSIONALS

The most widespread use of the test is in psychotherapy, offering professionals information of incomparable quality about the psychology, behavior and intentions of their patients. The test is also an accurate tool for following the evolution of a patient, serving as a guide that adapts to each patient’s particular case. The clinical application of the test was developed by Robert S. Hartman with the support of Mexican psychiatrist, Salvador Roquet.

\

PERSONNEL

The second most commonly used application of the test focuses on staff selection and career guidance. Knowing the potential of an employer or manager, his relationship with authority, capacity for loyalty, behavioral style and other information is fundamental for making optimal staffing decisions.

\

PEDAGOGY

The third area for application of the test is in pedagogy, human development and the study of consciousness. Given the extensive ability of the test to analyse with distinct precision, it can be used to follow the development of a pedagogical program, social development, and even measure the effect of experiences of expanded consciousness. In this sense, it is the only useful tool for analyzing the development and effects of mystical and transpersonal experiences.

ORIGIN OF THE TEST

The Hartman Test is based on the formal axiology or theory of values, and was designed by German mathematician, judge and axiologist Robert S. Hartman in the mid-20th century. The clinical use of the Hartman test was developed by him in collaboration with the Mexican psychiatrist, Salvador Roquet, who promoted its use in the area of psychology.

“I thought to myself, if evil can be organised so efficiently why cannot good be? Is there any reason for efficiency to be monopolised by the forces of evil in the world? Why is it so difficult to organise good? Why have people in history never seemed to have had as much power as bad people? I decided I would try to find out why and devote my life to doing something about it.” Robert S. Hartman

The search that focused Dr. Hartman’s life was to answer the question: “What is good?” and to respond in a way that good can be organised to improve human life. The most complete expression of axiology is found in his work, the Structure of Value: Foundations of Axiological Science, and remains one of the most constructive and revolutionary constructs of the 20th century.

Values act on the premise of people’s lives. The science of value measures a person’s capacity to value what he is living and how he is living it, what and how he feels, what and how he acts, and what and how he thinks. That is, what are we able to perceive about what we feel, think and act has axiological implications. The immense objective value of this test resides in the solid mathematical foundations that sustain it.
